My feeder friend Geoff is a classic Abel. He is one of the sweetest, most compassionate guys you''d ever want to meet, but ask him about Phil and his eyes go all flinty and he takes you back to a day in Florida about five years ago on one of the trips that solar the three of us had been making with five other guys for 19 years.Geoff is playing with Phil when, halfway through the round, Geoff notices something:"As everyone putts out, it registers that though Phil was closest, he didn''t pick up the flagstick and replace it. So I pick it up. At the next hole I notice he leaves it again, right panels and deer at his feet. In fact, he''s gotta step over the flag to leave the feeder green. As we walk to the next tee, it occurs solar to me that I''ve panels never seen Phil actually pick up a flagstick. As the day goes on, I keep a running count. Zero. Then I think back to previous trips ..."

There are two ways to clear the hole. We show deer and feeder stopping the auger and lifting it and the soil out of the hole and emptying the soil in one pile near the hole. That keeps the soil in one place for easy backfilling and prevents it from scattering over nearby grass. An alternative is to dig down a few inches, then throttle back to slow the turning and pull it free to spin off the collected dirt. Then drop it back down to pull up more soil. This method is faster (and solar more physically demanding), but dirt will panels fly everywhere and be harder to reclaim. It''s a good method if you''re backfilling with gravel or concrete and/or don''t care about the mess.
