We didn''t chat much on the way to the airport, either. It doesn''t have to be like this. There are some simple things you can do to head off the petty, sophomoric, self-involved, grandiose, absent-minded, boorish, moody, drunken, vicious, infuriating behavior that threatens nearly every trip and often causes four grown men or women to have dinner at three different restaurants. We outline these steps for you below in "The Ten Commandments of Golf Trips." They''re based on an informal survey of golfers accounting for more than 300 trips, with help from the people at the Golf Digest Schools. The most important piece of advice is probably the first: Similar types do best on golf trips. Competitive golfers don''t want to play "for fun" and casual players think of 36-a-day as the Bataan Death March. Unfortunately, there is no magic pill that makes a golf trip go right. The center-rear location is typically the best spot, but the generator may be placed on the side of the body depending on weight. NFPA 1901 talks about load distribution and keeping the side-to-side load variation to no more than 7% of the tire or axle weight rating. Gas or diesel generators with fuel drawn from the cab/chassis fuel tank also are available. If these generators take up too much weight and space on the truck, consider an under-hood belt-driven or power take-off generator. These generators are lighter and won''t add noise on scene, create additional heat or take up usable compartment storage areas. Best of all, they require little or no maintenance.
